This was our front door before the makeover. It wasn’t ugly, but I wanted a change. The black door showed ALL of the dirt/dust constantly and I felt like I was cleaning it weekly to keep it somewhat clean (but it wasn’t working).
We normally keep this door open during the day because the fur babies like to look out, so it made the interior space feel dark.
So, one morning I decided to paint our front door! I used primer and paint that we already had, so the best part of this project was that it was completely FREE!
Step 1: Clean any dust/dirt off the door to ensure that the primer/paint will apply smoothly.
Step 2: Tape off the door and handles. You may remove the handles to make it easier, but I didn’t want to worry about re-installing, so I just taped. I used Scotch Paint Tape which never lets paint leak and has the easiest cleanup.
Step 3: Prime the door (optional). You may not need to do this step, but since I was going with a much lighter shade, I went ahead and primed the door with one coat. (A mask isn’t necessary, but I am pregnant so I’m being cautious. ☺️)
Here is what the door looked like after the primer. Doesn’t it already look much brighter in this space?!
Step 4: Paint the door. There is a technique to painting your door properly, so be sure to follow the guidelines below!
Here is what the door looked like after one coat. I let this dry before applying the second coat in the same order as the picture above.
And here is the finished door! I love how light it turned out and makes the space so much brighter. It looks way cleaner too so hopefully I won’t have to clean weekly anymore!
If you’re wanting to know what paint color we used, here what was listed on the paint can.
